So Cal Micro Invasion

A Super Micro Meet
May 28th,29th,30th 2010

This is our first So Cal Micro Car Invasion!  Come to our inaugural event and you can say you were there.
This is not going to be a sit and shine car show, but a drive, show and tell event.
Besides, do you need a better excuse to drive your micro car in Sunny Southern California?

This was not your usual sit and shine car show.
If you missed the meet, well you missed a great time.  We had 37 cars at the peak of attendance and we were able to terrorize the streets of Orange County California with little cars and 2-stroke fumes.  With all these cars we only had to trailer 1 car and only for a couple of miles.  We were able to find seats for everyone that wanted to ride in a small car, even had 4 people in a little ole Vespa 400.

Awards

Slowest:
Richard Lewis won this award for his Peel P50.  But I must say he stayed with the group.  I think he will have to get a few fillings repaired or his insides adjusted after bouncing around for miles and miles on city streets.  It must have been quite a site to be standing on the street corner, watching micro cars zooming by and then seeing an even tinier Peel P50.  (Of course we had Dick Tuttle with his Peel Trident, but he would have won for the fastest award.  That guy is just plain nuts with the way he drives his Peel Trident.)

I know what you are thinking, it only LOOKS like the truck is winning, the next picture would show that the Peel is clearly ahead.

Most Breakdowns:
This award went to someone that didn't actually have any breakdowns, but helped the person that did have the most breakdowns.  Flower stayed with the person and helped him try and find parts to fix his car.  She said I just can't leave him alone with a disabled car.  Thank you Flower, she does have a last name but most people just know her as Flower so we will leave it at that.

Bucket of Bolts: We gave this award to the person that actually had the most breakdowns.  Steve Sproul had a few problems with his Isetta Yello!.
It actually all started with a mishap unloading the Isetta.  Let's just say the tires were straddling the ramps as opposed to on the ramps.  The rest of the time it was mostly fuel related, but he kept it running and never got on a trailer.  I think he is proud to be the recipient of this award and has even changed his tag line to "Isetta Yello! Bucket O Bolts". Way to go Steve!

Alright here is the picture.  BUT, what you have to picture is the ramps under the tires, well they were there only AFTER the car slipped off the ramps.  And see the oil and rags under the car, well that is all the oil that came out of the chain case.  And you might ask how the oil came out of the chain case...well Steve used a zerk fitting to plug the hole.  So when the car slipped off the ramps, only supported by the middle ramp resting on the chain case, it knocked off the zerk fitting.  Then you might want to know, "Why use a zerk fitting"?  This is only a guess on my part, maybe it was the only thing within reach when Steve needed something to plug the hole?  Turns out he just crammed that zerk fitting back in with a little liquid steel, added oil, and it worked without leaking, sorta like the little Dutch Boy.  There is actually a little more to the story but I think I have embarrassed good ole Steve enough.

Furthest Traveled: Larry Newberrry came the farthest, all the way from Knoxville Tennessee, but he didn't bring a car so he was automatically disqualified.  Hey I don't make the rules, wait yes I do.  Sorry Larry.  The person that DID come the farthest WITH a car was Steve Sproul, but there was no way I was going to give him 2 awards and we already determined I make the rules.  I was too tired to actually measure the distance so Byron and Mara Brill along with Matt and Patricia Spielberg are sharing this award. However, I have now mapped it out and the Brill's are 1 mile, yes 1 mile further then the Spielberg's.  Since I make the rules, I propose a duel to the finish using only chop sticks.  The Arcane Society had a great turn out from the Bay Area...thanks to all that traveled far and not so far!!

Best Hook Up:
Ed Hughes won this one for following along with a trailer to pick up any lost parts or broken cars.  Lucky for us he only had to "Hook Up" one car.  I really want to thank Ed for taking a day of his time to make sure we all got home safely!  Thank you Ed.

You get 3 guesses to pick which one is Ed and the first 2 don't count.  Ready?

Friday: We had a great kick off party with lots of neighbors attending.  There were all kinds of treats including micro pizza's, micro sliders, micro waters and micro candies.  Not to mention beer, wine and the slushiest margaritas.  We took a quick run to 31 flavors for some ice cream as it was getting dark.

Saturday: We started early leaving the host hotel at 6:30 in the morning.  It was a beautiful morning drive to "Cars and Coffee".  It is hard to keep a grin off your face when you see almost 40 micro cars come streaming in one after the other.  A comment was overheard that "this is the best thing at Cars and Coffee in a LONG time".  Overall I think close to 300 cars attended Cars and Coffee, but in any case the lot was full and they were turning cars away.

We headed back to our home around 8:30 and had more coffee, bagels and car talk.  Again the whole neighborhood showed up with smiles.  They all commented what a nice group of micro car nuts we were.  We left our home and headed for beautiful Balboa where we parked right next to the water with sailboats and all kinds of activity.  While we were there we had lunch and walked around.  Dennis and Ginger braved the busy island with their 2CV and headed across the water on the ferry.  I think they had to wait about 20 minutes just to get on the ferry.

We left Balboa and made a quick stop at Chris Schwartz's home for a picture.  He has a beautiful home that was perfect for a picture with all our cars.  I got on the roof and took some pictures.

Yep, thats me way up there.

We then went to Crevier Classic Cars where they had nice cold water waiting for us, not to mention the beautiful collection of cars they have there.  When leaving Crevier Classic Cars, a few people then went to freshen up and some of us went straight to our home for more talking and partying.

The evening party had more beer, wine and the slushiest margaritas.  We had the Taco Guy making fresh authentic carne asada, carnitas and pollo tacos.  After everyone was full we went for a yogurt run then back to my home for more partying!

Sunday:  Well I am sorry to say this was the one mistake I made.  We had to leave our home at 6:45 in the morning for the next little thing and 2 early mornings was a little too much for some of you.  We went to "Million Dollar Breakfast"  They call it that because all the cars are worth millions and it is breakfast time, not that they serve a super duper breakfast.  We still had 14 cars attend this get together and Dick Tuttle won an award with his Peel Trident from the Million Dollar Breakfast people.  I don't know what the award was but could likely have been for the most dangerous or nuts or craziest?  Really, for those of you that haven't met Dick Tuttle you are missing out, he is a great guy!

At this point I was COMPLETLY worn out.  Again thank you all for helping make this a top notch event...hope to see you all next time!
